Trojan horse

What is Trojan horse:

The Trojan Horse was the big wooden horse used by the Greeks, during the Trojan War, to enter the city of Troy and win the war.

The story:

the Greeks at the behest of Odysseus constructed a huge wooden horse and hid a select force of men inside, including Odysseus himself. The Greeks pretended to sail away, and the Trojans pulled the horse into their city as a victory trophy. That night the Greek force crept out of the horse and opened the gates for the rest of the Greek army, which had sailed back under cover of night. The Greeks entered and destroyed the city of Troy, ending the war.

Modern metaphorical use of " Trojan horse ":

The term "Trojan horse" is used metaphorically to mean any trick or strategy that causes a target to invite a foe into a securely protected place; or to deceive by appearance, hiding malevolent intent in an outwardly benign exterior; to subvert from within using deceptive means.

Beginning in the late 20th century, “Trojan horse” was applied to deceptively benign computer codes that seem like legitimate applications,  but are written to damage or disrupt a computer’s programming,  or to steal personal information.
